Twórca przemyskiej szkoły akordeonowej i mentor wielu pokoleń akordeonistów. Czuwał nad koncertami towarzyszącymi oraz pracą jurorów, współtworząc festiwal od pierwszych edycji. Jako pierwszy wprowadził do przemyskiej szkoły akordeon guzikowy.

The founder of the Przemyśl accordion school and mentor to many generations of accordionists. He oversaw the accompanying concerts and the work of the jurors, helping to shape the festival from its earliest editions. He was the first to introduce the button accordion at the Przemyśl school.

Autor koncepcji i regulaminu konkursu, odpowiedzialny za jego organizację do 2001 roku. Nadał wydarzeniu otwartą, nowatorską formułę – ze swobodą repertuarową i jawnym, komputerowym systemem oceniania na żywo.

Author of the competition’s concept and rules, responsible for its organisation until 2001. He gave the event its open, innovative formula – with freedom of repertoire and a transparent, computerised system of live scoring.

Akordeonista i pedagog, dyrektor ZPSM im. Artura Malawskiego w Przemyślu. Od 2002 roku dyrektor festiwalu – umocnił jego międzynarodową rangę, kontynuując dzieło jego twórców.

An accordionist and teacher, director of the Artur Malawski State Music School Complex in Przemyśl. Festival director since 2002, he has strengthened its international standing while continuing the work of its founders.

Na przełomie lat 80. i 90. narodziła się potrzeba konkursu, który wyróżni się na tle innych. Andrzej Wawrzyniuk spisał nowatorski regulamin – z dowolnością repertuarową i jawnymi ocenami – a w 1987 roku, dzięki 8-bitowemu komputerowi Atari, stworzył system wyświetlania i obliczania punktacji na żywo. Pomysł poparł Stanisław Kucab, ówczesny kierownik sekcji akordeonu, który zajął się koncertami towarzyszącymi i pracą jurorów.

At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s the need arose for a competition that would stand out from the rest. Andrzej Wawrzyniuk drew up an innovative set of rules – with freedom of repertoire and open scoring – and in 1987, using an 8-bit Atari computer, created a system for displaying and calculating scores live. The idea was backed by Stanisław Kucab, then head of the accordion section, who took charge of the accompanying concerts and the work of the jurors.

Pierwsza edycja odbyła się w 1992 roku z udziałem 77 uczestników. Od 2002 roku dyrektorem festiwalu jest Dariusz Baszak, który wyniósł go do rangi jednej z najważniejszych imprez akordeonowych w Europie.

The first edition took place in 1992 with 77 participants. Since 2002 the festival has been directed by Dariusz Baszak, who has raised it to the rank of one of the most important accordion events in Europe.
